Interact Correlieu Interact International Project - Shelter Box Quesnel Correlieu Interact selected Shelter Box for their international project...and achieved outstanding success. Over the course of two consecutive weekends in early March and in all kinds of weather, they literally pitched their Shelter Box tent outside WalMart, Safeway, Save-On and Extra Foods to attract attention. Speaking with countless people and handing out plenty of brochures, they also collected donations...a total exceeding $1300, more than enough to meet their goal of $1200 for a single box. This also secured the one-box matching commitment made by their sponsor club, Rotary Club of Quesnel. They didn't stop there, however. Taking packages of information to selected local businesses, they secured a further three corporate Box donations. Those five boxes will provide emergency shelter for up to 50 people. And the money is still coming in! President Rakesh Dawan explained " Our goal was not just to raise money but also to raise awareness. So often we see the news of natural disasters like earthquakes and the tsunami - Dr Havens showed us how Shelter Box can allow us to actually help people who have lost their homes" "Dr Havens" is Rotarian John Havens who, along with Rotarian Bev Halushack, have been providing support and guidance to Correlieu Interact. "They were inspired by what we told them about Shelter Box. Now we are inspired by the way they took on their first international project".
